"The voice of Nunavut's emerging Film/TV/New Media industry."
2. General description of Ajjiit and what the association does
There are two types of memberships. Regular members are those actively engaged in Film, Television and New Media occupations in Nunavut. Non-Nunavut based producers/production companies who often collaborate on Northern film projects may also apply for associate membership.
Ajjiit members were included in a working group that was instrumental in developing the first Nunavut Film Policy. Since its inception, members of Ajjiit have consulted formally and informally with the Government of Nunavut and Nunavut Film on issues affecting the industry.
The first Annual Territorial Film Festival was held in 2004 and featured a successful Nunavut premiere tour of "The Snow Walker" as well as industry workshops. The 2005 Film Celebration and Gala included an expanded film screening program and increased community participation. Industry Workshops, also were increased. The First Industry Recognition Awards were presented during the Gala Night held in Iqaluit . Made in Nunavut productions and coproductions were featured during the Festival. An Arctic Location Scouting Tour highlighted by "Tea on the Bay", was also staged as part of Festival Events.
Major events on the horizon for 2006, include, hosting regional workshops, consulting on the development of a Media Studies Program , coordinating an international Trade Mission, an expanded Territorial Film Festival, Industry Services and Humans Resources Database, and continuing to promote the products, services and personnel of Nunavut's Film, Television and New Media Industry.
